What You Will Need

• 8 long strips of wood or PVC board (approximately 12 inches in length)
• Window screen (heavier-duty preferred)
• 1-inch or 1-¼-inch exterior deck screws
• Drill for pre-drilling holes
• Self-tapping eyelets
• Chain or weather-resistant rope
• A small key ring

Step 1: Gathering Your Materials

The first thing you need to do is home tell and preparing your bird feeder.

For the feeder base, you can use any treated wood, or PVC boards. PVC is a great option, because It won’t split as easily as wood. The boards should be about 12 inches long and approximately 1 inch square. You can even use thinner boards, but that may result in a weaker feeder.

Step 2: Creating the Frame

The next step is to make the base of your bird feeder.

Take 4 boards and make a square. If you are using wood, pre drill your countersunk holes to avoid splitting the wood, and then screw the corners together using some exterior deck screws. Do this again for another square.

Step 3: Adding the Screen

Now, for the last step, take a window screen that is a bit thicker, and sandwich that between the two square frames. This screen is going to be the base on which birds will sit and eat. Make sure the screen is anywhere, but keep it evenly.

To keep the screen in position, secure it in place by pre-drilling countersunk screws in the frames. Then, attach the two squares enclosing the window screen with screws.

Step 4: Installing the Eyelets

Now that the primary components of the bird feeder are done, let’s move to the eyelets.

The self-tapping eyelets will go into the corners of the frame. These will be the attachment points for the chains (or rope) to hang the bird feeder.
