Why Patience Pays Off
Hummingbirds are very cautious birds and will often fly away at the slightest sign of movement, even if it’s not directed at them. The photographer in this case achieved their goal by remaining out of sight and letting the hummingbirds do their thing. Machine-like feeders are often assumed to have caused this behavior, however, as many bird watchers know, the best way to capture the ‘natural’ or expected behavior is often to simply disappear. While the end result is certainly impressive, it’s also a great window into the kind of happiness that can be found in observing birds when we simply provide them the space to act like birds.
