This native vine shouldn't be mixed up with the more problematic Japanese honeysuckle. It is full of tubular red flowers that bloom from spring to fall and are a consistent source of nectar for hummingbirds, so it is sure to attract to your yard. In fact, I've seen multiple hummingbirds visit the same vine at one time! This plant does best at the base of a trellis or a fence. You'll be glad you did when the hummingbird shows begin!

2. Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis)
Hummingbirds are drawn to the bold red spikes of these native perennials. They're great for tricky spots in your garden as they like moist soil and partial shade. Mine flower from July to September, providing vital nectar after many other plants have finished.
3. Native Salvia Species
Native salvia species, like S. coccinea and S. greggii, are especially attractive to hummingbirds. They are drought resistant and if you deadhead them, they will keep blooming over the season. I have seen as many as 5 hummingbirds at one time during migration visiting my salvia patch.
4. Bee Balm (Monarda didyma)
This native perennial produces shaggy crown-like flowers. These flowers can be red, pink, or purple. It also spreads very quickly and creates dense patches that hummingbirds patrol. Plant it where it has room to spread, you will soon have a good hummingbird feeding station. Mine starts blooming in June and continues through August.

5. Coral Bells (Heuchera sanguinea)
These gentle bloomers create small bell-shaped flowers and tall stems that attract hummingbirds. They are especially good because they do well in shade and can bloom for weeks. I put them along the pathways in my garden because their small flowers create ideal perching spots so the hummingbirds can feed.

Native penstemons are incredible drought tolerant plants. They have tubular flowers, that suit hummingbirds perfectly. Be sure to select region specific species for the best results. 10. Scarlet Runner Beans (Phaseolus coccineus)
This wonderful vine provides both lovely flowers and beans to eat. The bright red flowers are favorite of the hummingbirds. They grow quickly to cover arbors and trellises. I put them in every spring and they always attract hummingbirds.
